Sir Satyendranath Bose, (1894-1974)
Indian Physicist, who solved one of the mysteries of quantum mechanics, showing that in the quantum world some particles are indistinguishable. His collaborations with Albert Einstein led to a new branch on statistical mechanics know commonly known as the “Einstein-Bose” statistics.

 

 
 
Forthcoming Activities/Projects of the Department and the Council:
The major programmes of the Department are:

Research and Development measures needed for correcting imbalances,

Promotion of Scientific Research in areas appropriate for fulfillment of the socio-economic needs of the State

Formulating policy and guidelines relating to the use of Science and Technology in rural areas through appropriate organizations

Popularisation of Science & Technology through awareness camps, seminars, exhibitions etc. and Science Congress in regional language

Introduction of known technology for socio-economic benefit of the people of the State

Transfer of technology from lab to land

Skill Development and Employment Generation through Science &
Technology Programmes

These programmes and projects were so long being implemented by the Department through the West Bengal State Council of Science and Technology, an autonomous body under the administrative control of the department. The State Council is the effective implementing agency for all programmes and projects since 2004–05 after being thoroughly re-organized and strengthened with the scientific manpower available with the Department. The State Council implements all projects and programmes of the Deptt. and Council in close association and co-ordination with the leading Scientific Research Institute, Universities and other Govt. Departments.

The four major thrust areas of the Department can be classified as:

Awareness and popularization of Science

Utilizing Science to address the needs of problems - specific and location - specific problems

Biotechnology and Tissue Culture

Geo-Informatics & Remote Sensing
