The Science & Technology Department of the Government of West Bengal was set up in 1988. The West Bengal State Council of Science & Technology, an autonomous body, registered under the Societies Registration Act & under the administrative control of this Department, was established on an all-India pattern, to facilitate the operationalising of the Department's mandate, with inputs from eminent Experts in diverse specialised scientific and technology-related spheres. It has spread its activities manifold, with the participation of the scientific and academic community.
